What can we do for you and your Parkinson’s?

April is Parkinson’s awareness month and here at Premier we are trying to help spread the word!

What is Parkinson’s?

Parkinson’s is a disorder of the central nervous system where the brain can no longer appropriately tell your body how to move or react. It turns the dial down on the signals sent to your body causing you to move slower, smaller, and less coordinated. It also leads to rigidity, causing your joints and muscles to stiffen up which will cause further difficulty with reactions. It is important to maintain activity levels in order to slow the progression of mobility related symptoms.

Did you know:

1.       Parkinson’s is the second most common neuro-degenerative disease in the world following Alzheimer’s.

2.       Parkinson’s also includes silent symptoms (non-motor) that affect mood and fatigue levels which also play a large role in quality of life.

3.       Even with the diagnosis of Parkinson’s, people can still experience a good quality of life!

So what can we do to help?

There are several therapy programs to help target Parkinson’s specifically in order to improve large amplitude movement and “trick the brain” into thinking bigger, creating more normalized movement patterns and improve overall mobility and function. Therapy can target a large variety of symptoms including balance, strength, mobility, coordination, and gait.

Our Premier team can treat a variety of conditions including Parkinsonian symptoms while targeting any underlying orthopedic conditions as well in order to reach your goals and improve your overall health and function for a better QOL. We have therapists certified in the BIG program as well as PWR!Moves.
